bauderfilm GmbH was founded in 1999 by Dörte Franke and Marc Bauder. The company focuses on the development and production of high-quality documentaries and feature films for the national and international theatrical market (especially US, Europe & Asia). Our films, such as WER WIR WAREN, MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE, and DEAD MAN WORKING, appeared at numerous festivals (BERLINALE, LOCARNO, IDFA etc. ) and have been honored with awards including the European Film Award, the German Documentary Film Award, and the Grimme Prize. In 2014, we collaborated with whiteVOID to create the art installation LICHTGRENZE to mark the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Marc Bauder
director and producer
Marc was born in Stuttgart in 1974. He first studied Business Administration in Cologne, St. Gallen and New York, and later attended the Babelsberg Film University. In 1999, he founded his own production company, bauderfilm GmbH, producing documentaries such as “Last to Know” (Berlinale 2006). 2011 was the debut of his award-winning feature film “THE SYSTEM”. His documentary “MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE” won, among others, the European Film Prize and the German Documentary Film Award. Together with his brother, he developed the art installation LICHTGRENZE to mark the 25-year anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall in 2014. In 2017, his feature film “DEAD MAN WORKING” won the Grimme Prize. His documentary “WHO WE WERE” celebrated its world premiere at the BERLINALE 2021 and was awarded the Hessian Film Prize. Marc is a member of the European and German Film Academies.

Dörte Franke
author and director
Dörte was born in Leipzig in 1974, but moved to West Germany in 1981 after her parents were bought free from prison by the West after having served time as political prisoners. From 1994-2001, she studied political science at the University of Cologne, graduating with a master’s degree. From 2001-2006, she studied dramaturgy at the HFF Potsdam. Her publications include Die einen wetten, die anderen warten (novel, 2001, dtv) as well as denkmalimkopf (novel, 2002, dtv). She co-founded bauderfilm alongside Marc, with whom she helped produce a number of award-winning documentaries. As a screenwriter, Dörte Franke is represented by the Verlag der Autoren. One of her latest projects BÜCHNER IS DEAD won the Hessische Drehbuchpreis 2015.
